The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is officially the largest arts festival in the world. In 2005 more than 735 groups participated putting on 1,800 different shows with a total of 26,995 performances in 247 venues.

Edinburgh is a fantastic networking opportunity. Where else do you have the opportunity to flaunt yourself to the largest gathering of peers and industry types in the world? You will rub shoulders with producers, promoters, journalists, festival directors, media types and also other companies or individuals who may have interests and aspirations close to your own.

It's heaps of hard work and for some an even harder party. The Fringe is an open arts festival and anyone can take part. However, it can be extremely daunting to be one of 1,800 shows competing for the same audience. Scamp Theatre have produced/presented 5 Fringe First winning productions, and between them our personnel have over 25 years of experience at the Festival Fringe. We can help you every step of the way.

Scamp's management package for the festival includes the following:

Venue Selection

Having the right venue is one of the most important aspects of the festival. Scamp know the venues inside out and will be able to find the right venue and slot for you. We will contact venues on your behalf and pitch shows in person. We will also deal with contracts on your behalf.

Publicity and Marketing

With such a large number of productions to compete against, publicity and marketing are crucially important and has to be done right if you want to sell the maximum number of tickets.

Scamp will; organise photoshoots, facilitate design and printing, advise on distribution, facilitate, plan and organise your advertising campaign and hire a first rate publicist with costs shared between shows.

Scamp has an energetic, informed and experienced street team who will be flyering for your show at your venue and at other targeted places. Up the sleeves of their Scamp T-shirts they have many marketing tricks which we are not willing to divulge here! The street team is highly effective and in the past have managed to quadruple the audiences for shows. They were so effective in 2005 that one of the major venues asked to hire them.

Financial Management

Edinburgh can be prohibitively expensive and it is important to plan your budget from the outset. Scamp can help you get the most from your money and advise to ensure a smooth cash flow. Every year we manage several productions at the fringe. Where possible we share costs between shows, thus lowering costs for everyone.

If you are coming from outside the UK, Scamp can advise regarding VAT issues. We will liaise with the Foreign Entertainers Unit at the Inland Revenue where relevant and apply for reduced/waived taxation on Edinburgh earnings.

Accommodation

This is one of the major expenses of coming to the Festival Fringe. Scamp always use a reputable property agent and view all potential properties to ensure that you are getting the best value for money. Years of experience mean that we know the areas in which to stay and those to avoid and we will locate you in a convenient property for your venue. Properties are also checked prior to your arrival in Edinburgh.

Technical

You will have a maximum of four hours tech time to get your show into the venue. Once it is up and running you can expect an average turnaround time of no more than twenty minutes! Early technical liaison is therefore critical. Scamp will do this on your behalf and have experience in most performance spaces.

We will book and manage your get in and be on hand to troubleshoot as necessary. The chances of something being missing from your set or props is high and we will be able to help you.

Company Management

If the marketing and publicity campaign is successful you will be required for photoshoots, press interviews etc. Scamp will provide a member of staff at all of these engagements to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Your Show's Future

The reason for most companies to come to the festival is to ensure a future life for their production. This is one of our strongest areas and we will be delighted to assist. In order to get as many promoters, producers and venue artistic directors into your show as possible, Scamp will be networking on your behalf. There are many forums at which we will be pitching your show; promoters' breakfasts, the Fringe Office, and most importantly the Assembly Rooms bar and the Scamp Haggis Supper!

Prior to the festival we send a mailshot to over 800 contacts telling them of the shows we are managing this year and inviting them along. You will be kept informed daily and given a list at the end of the festival detailing those who came and including their contact details.
